From the guys who introduced “I don’t roll on Shabbos” to the average (or, not so average) movie-lover’s vernacular, comes A Serious Man, the Coen brothers’ latest slice of bizarre Americana.  Ostensibly the story of a mild-mannered Midwestern professor in search of the secret to being, as the film’s synopsis states, “a righteous person – a mensch – a serious man,” we follow Larry Gopnik (Michael Stuhlbarg) as he bounces from rabbi to rabbi, looking for the answers to life’s tough questions.
Since this is a Coen brothers’ movie, it’s probably safe to assume that Larry’s journey is going to get a little weird (did you catch the Hebrew letters, etched into the set of teeth?) and if the trailer is any indication, the wisdom of the Jewish sages might not be so helpful, after all.
Secretary: The Rabbi is busy.
Serious Man: He Doesn’t look busy.
Secretary: He’s thinking.
Cue the Janis Joplin….
Looks like more genius from the Coen duo. I feel sorry for that blackboard.
Next big hip-hop trend: Hebrew lettering on your grills. Makes bubbie’s chicken taste extra delish.
