Putting the Ha! in Rosh Ha'shanah contest rules


The Alef “Putting the HA! In Rosh HaShanah” Contest rules:

ELIGIBILITY: The contest is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada (alumni from other countries must enter through their local Taglit contact) who are eighteen (18) years or older at the time of entry and are not winners of any of our previous contests. Madrichim and staff members (who are not former alumni), employees of Taglit-Birthright Israel, Birthright Israel NEXT, and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate. “Immediate family” includes only spouses, parents and children.

All submissions must be received by Sept 24th, 2009.

All submissions must be written in English and be free of any text formatting (bold, italics, etc.).

Each entrant must supply his or her full name, email address,

No group submissions please.

By submitting a response, each entrant grants Birthright Israel NEXT the right to use his or her name, without compensation, in all publicity and marketing materials (including Birthright Israel NEXT’s web site) relating to the essay or the essay contest.

The first prize winner will receive two complementary tickets to “Putting the HA! In Rosh HaShanah” performing at City Winery, NYC, on Sept. 24th at 9pm.

Limit one entry per person.

There shall be no cash substitution for prizes, and Birthright Israel NEXT reserves the right to replace the listed prizes with similar items of equal or greater value. All taxes are the responsibility of entrants.

PUBLICITY RELEASE: By submitting a essay or poem, each entrant grants Birthright Israel NEXT the right to use his or her name, voice, photograph, likeness and information provided on entry form, without compensation, including in all publicity and marketing materials (including Birthright Israel NEXT’s web site) relating to the essay or poem or the essay or poem contest, except where prohibited by law.

LICENSE: By entering the essay or poem contest, each entrant grants to Birthright Israel NEXT a non-exclusive limited license to copy, distribute, display, adapt, publish and make derivative works from the essay or poem or portions of the essay or poem in Taglit-Birthright Israel’s marketing materials in any media now known or hereafter created, including publication and distribution of the essay or poem or portions of the essay or poem on Birthright Israel NEXT’s web site, without further compensation. Birthright Israel NEXT will endeavor to include the entrant’s name each time his or her essay or poem or a portion of his or her essay or poem is used in this manner.

WARRANTY BY ENTRANT: By submitting a essay or poem, each entrant warrants that the essay or poem is original, was taken by the entrant, does not violate any copyright laws, and does not plagiarize, libel, defame, disparage, slander or otherwise infringe on or violate the rights of any third parties. Each entrant agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Birthright Israel NEXT, its officers, directors, employees and affiliated organizations, and their respective officers, directors and employees, from and against any and all claims, demands, damages, costs, liabilities and causes of action of whatsoever nature that are based upon or arise out of any breach by the entrant of these contest rules or the warranties and representations made in this paragraph.

JUDGING: After a first round of judging by an independent panel of judges.  The panel of judges will make the final decision, which in all cases shall be binding and shall not be subject to appeal.

WINNER NOTIFICATION: Winners will be notified via e-mail or postal mail on Sept. 24th at 12 pm or within a reasonable time thereafter. If a winner is disqualified or ineligible for any reason, Taglit-Birthright Israel will select the next highest scoring entry as the alternate winner. Alternate winners are subject to all eligibility requirements in these rules.

MISCELLANEOUS: Birthright Israel NEXT reserves the right to disqualify any entry for inappropriate content and/or failure to follow contest rules, including entries that Birthright Israel NEXT reasonably believes are not the original work of an entrant. Any essay or poem for which more than one alumnus claims ownership will be disqualified from entry. Void where prohibited or restricted by law.

Birthright Israel NEXT reserves the right to interpret these rules as needed and its decisions are final. Birthright Israel NEXT reserves the right to correct typographical, clerical or printing errors in any contest materials and to cancel all or any portion of this contest if, for reasons beyond Birthright Israel NEXT, the contest is not capable of being run fairly or securely.
