Every once in a while, we get a glimpse into the lives of our ancestors. Thanks to a good find by archeologists outside the Old City of Jerusalem, we've got the cold, hard proof that ancient Hebrews liked to keep things a little cryptic.

From the August 1, 2009 L.A. Times:

“U.S. archaeologists have found an extremely rare 2,000-year-old limestone cup inscribed with 10 lines of Aramaic or Hebrew script near the Zion Gate of the Old City of Jerusalem.”

Cool discovery. Luckily, the script is in fine condition – neither eroded nor degraded. Unluckily, it was written in an elusive cursive and is deliberately cryptic. It may take researchers six months to decode – allowing us all to feel just a little better about our mediocre Hebrew school performances.
