My dad's dad passed two weeks after his wedding to my mother on my birthday two years before I was born. Many times I have felt guilty for wanting to celebrate this day and make it all about me when it is also the anniversary of Grandpa Abe's, a man I never met, passing. The words your Rabbi shared with you and that you've now shared with all of us are so lovely in their truth and have given me some peace, as well. We often forget how important it is to focus on the times we shared with our loved ones instead of the times that they missed. I've heard many stories, and my family has its own, of loved ones waiting to say goodbye before passing on. Definitely makes me believe in the soul's spirit.
